Jurys Inn, Liverpool

THE HOTEL: Located on Keel Wharf (Number 31) , directly behind the ACC Liverpool Convention Centre and Arena, the hotel is in a perfect spot for those visiting the city as a conference delegate, as I was. The hotel comprises a strikingly modern building within spitting distance to a range of restaurants and the Tate Gallery in Albert Dock. There is also a Pizza Express directly outside the hotel.

THE ROOM: The room was of a good size, light and contemporary in its design style with a flatscreen TV, hi-speed internet access, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities, desk and perfectly adequate bathroom. There was no safe but there are safety deposit boxes available at reception. There was no room service available but the hotel's lobby restaurant will take orders between 6-10pm.

THE BUSINESS: The in-room hi-speed internet connection is available at £5 per hour or £10 per 24 hours. There were nine meeting rooms, the largest accommodating 100 people in theatre-style configuration. Photocopying can be handled by staff at the reception desk.

THE FACILITIES: The are two lobby bars, both serving snacks, plus the Innfusion restaurant which is open for breakfast and dinner. Residents can be served drinks at the Inntro bar until 1.30am. The hotel has no car parking but does offer access to nearby car parking in the Arena at the cost of £7.50 for 24 hours.

THE VERDICT: This was an efficiently-run and pleasant hotel with good staff and all the key facilities you need for a short business stay.

THE DETAILS: Lead-in prices kick off from £65 room and go up to £105 room-only, including VAT, and the rates will depend if there is an event on in the city which pushes up demand. For a double room on a busy weekday in mid-September, for example, the rate rose to £115 room only. For more information: Tel: 0151 244 3777; and see: www.jurysinns.com
